Professionals Training

Updated: Sep 27, 2022

Last week I ran my first online training event. After so many years of only delivering face-to-face training and usually to large groups of people (30+) it was a new experience to put my trust in Zoom for paying customers!! For a variety of reasons, it was a small gathering of professionals, but it was actually a perfect number to enable the level of participation that works best online. I thoroughly enjoyed it and got some very positive feedback from the attendees. Here's one:

I thoroughly enjoyed session, was reassuring that my own methods mirrored what I was hearing. Has been a long time since I have attended training on Behaviour so was great to bring knowledge and skills up to date. Delivered well, easy to listen to Zelpher, time went really quickly. Good to have the slides and handouts so I can go back to information along with my own notes. Julie H. 23rd September 2022

So I'll be delivering more professionals training on De-escalation for the rest this half-term and moving onto Building Resilience next half-term.

De-escalation: Professionals Training

· Friday 23rd September 2022 at 9:00 am to 12:00 pm (unavailable)

· Monday 3rd October 2022 at 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

· Tuesday 11th October 2022 at 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm

· Thursday 20th October 2022 at 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm

De-escalation is a targeted intervention for children who are likely to escalate low-level incidents into aggressive or dangerous behaviour. It is carried out by a staff member using calm, non-threatening verbal communication, gestures and body language to diffuse, re-direct, or de-escalate a situation during which there is conflict. This training gives experience of using the techniques effectively to reduce the likelihood of incidents escalating into extreme situations involving inappropriate behaviour.

Aims:

· To recognise when children are becoming anxious and in need of support with calming strategies

· To be aware of the situations in which children may benefit from help to de-escalate their behaviour

· To practise techniques and strategies for de-escalation and managing extreme situations

Building Resilience: Professionals Training

· Wednesday 2nd November 2022 at 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

· Thursday 10th November 2022 at 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm

· Friday 18th November 2022 at 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

· Tuesday 29th November 2022 at 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm

The training is for professionals working with children whole display patterns of behaviour consistent with an inability to manage issues, conflicts and feelings. It can be used with small groups or whole classes of children and adapted for any year group. It is particularly relevant where pupils are known to have challenging lifestyles or difficult situations outside of school that influence their behaviour within school. The training provides staff with theoretical support and practical strategies for building pupils’ resilience.

Aims:

· To develop an understanding of the psychology of resilience and why it is important

· To have an awareness of the challenges for many children for which resilience may be needed

· To have an understanding of the role of adults in the building children’s resilience

· To be equipped with skills to help children build their resilience
